An estimated 34 million people are living with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and more than 35 million have died from the disease. People around the world Monday will join forces to show their support for those living with the AIDS virus, as well as those who have died from the disease, when the 26th World AIDS Day is marked.
In the United States, approximately 1.2 million people are living with HIV, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 14% of all people with HIV in the U.S. don’t even know they have the virus, and the only way to find out is to be tested, the CDC says. ( Get tested for HIV it’s the only way to know if you’re living with the virus.)
